Visitor Policies
The safety of our visitors and staff and the preservation of Stratford Hall is our first priority. Please review the following policies to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit.
Photography and Videography
Personal Photography:
Personal photography is permitted on the grounds and in the historic buildings. No flash photography, audio or video recording, tripods, monopods, or selfie sticks are allowed inside the historic buildings. Photography and Videography is prohibited in the museum galleries. Please be respectful of fellow guests, staff, domestic animals, and wildlife.

Professional Photoshoots:
Stratford Hall Historic Preserve offers a variety of stunning indoor and outdoor spaces perfect for bridal portraits and other celebratory moments. Please contact us for pricing and reservation information.
Animals
- We invite visitors to enjoy this historic preserve along with their pet(s). For the comfort of all our guests we ask pet owners to observe and adhere to certain guidelines.
- Leashed dogs are welcome throughout the grounds but are not permitted inside Stratford Hall buildings. Pets should not be left unattended or inside cars. Pet owners must pick up and properly dispose of any waste.
- Service animals are welcome at Stratford Hall, which follows the U.S. Department of Justice’s ADA requirements for service animals. Visitors are not allowed to bring emotional support animals into the Great House or historic outbuildings.
Accessibility
The ground floor of the Great House is wheelchair accessible. Please use the westside door for entry and exit. Please note that stairs are required to access the upper floor, and the east entrance has steps.
Two wheelchairs are available for rent, free of charge, at the Visitor Center, where a portable mobility device ramp is also available. For assistance, please speak with a Stratford Hall staff member.
Small strollers are permitted inside the Great House.
Supervision
- Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
Prohibited Items and Activities
- Operation of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (drones) are strictly prohibited.
- Skateboards and two wheeled scooters, powered or unpowered, including Segways, are not permitted on the property.
- The use of sporting equipment is strictly prohibited.
- Eating, drinking, and chewing gum are prohibited in the Great House, historic outbuildings, and all exhibits.
- Outside alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
- Smoking, including e-cigarettes and smokeless tobacco, is prohibited inside all buildings and within 25 feet of all buildings at Stratford Hall.
- Solicitation or advertising is not permitted.
Conduct and Attire
- Appropriate clothing and footwear are required.
- Clothing that contains offensive or abusive language or symbols is not permitted.
- Visitors may not display or carry placards, signs, banners, including flags on poles, that cannot be stowed in a small bag.
- Visitors may not engage in disorderly conduct or participate in unauthorized assemblies.
Weapons and Hunting
- Firearms and weapons, including knives or sharp objects, are strictly prohibited. Only law enforcement officers and authorized staff can bring firearms or other weapons onto Stratford Hall property.
- Hunting on Stratford Hall property is permitted only by sanctioned Stratford Hall Hunting Leaseholders.
Additional Safety Information
- Inclement weather: in the event of sudden thunderstorms or threat of high winds, staff are authorized to suspend our regular operations until conditions allow for a safe resumption of tours and programs. If your visit is cut short due to these closures, a voucher for a return visit within one year will be provided based on the timing of the closure.
- We use a variety of methods in keeping Stratford Hall safe including video surveillance monitoring throughout our property.
